Visit of Barber Shipping Management


Barber Shipping Management or Barber as many call us, a leading Mercantile shipping company visited us on 13th of Nov.2006.This visit was to assess our training techniques and methodology adopted in imparting Marine engineering knowledge to the cadets. For the first time Mr.M.Shrinath-Managing Director of BSM (India) was on our campus along with his qualified team from International Maritime Training Centre- Capt.Yashoverman Sharma (Head of training centre-IMTC) and Mr.Hoshang Dastur (Head of Dept.Engg.studies-IMTC).

While on campus they inspected the various facilities that we provide to the cadets in the Academy viz.the control lab, Material Science lab, Electrical & Electronics lab, Computer science lab, Heat lab, Applied Mechanics lab & the Mechanical lab. After having been satisfied with the facilities being provided, they then visited the newly furnished library.

The workshops both General engineering & Marine work shops was their next halt. Therein they were content with the state-of-art machines and the training techniques adopted by the instructors and the lectures. They were particularly glad that hands on training of each and every cadet were being stressed upon. In the Marine workshop they were again delighted to know that cadets themselves undertook various tasks of opening, overhauling & assembling the same to the satisfaction of all. Proper procedure and techniques was also observed in the imparting of the training on various marine equipments.

The ship-on-campus is a point of note. Although not complete they were delighted to know that the cadets would have hands on training in a proper simulated environment of the ship in the campus.

Having satisfactorily inspected the various facilities the dignitaries were treated to a typical everyday meal at the college mess. It was a culinary delight. Prior to their lunch break the team from BSM addressed a gathering of cadets. It was an address aimed at created an awareness about BSM among those who were not to familiar with them.Mr.Shrinath power point presentation had the cadets spell-bound. Later on the two deputy officers also made their address. The basic stress of their address was to make the cadets cognizant of the working environment in the shipping industry in general and BSM in particular.

At the end of this session a healthy tele-e-tele was initiated in which the cadets were able to clarify any doubts or queries that they had. The BSM authorities most willingly and patiently supplied the answer to all those queries to the utmost satisfaction of the inquisitives.
